Hello everyone and welcome back to another game switch review, just add monster show for the latest and occasionally greatest ports on switch that shows you. If they're worth your time and or money.
We have a very anticipated port here today. I should know because i've been waiting all day for it to drop. After playing it for a couple hours boy, is apex legends on switch kinda rough.
I expected it to be rough from the maestros at panic button. First i want to explain what is going on here. Because this weird glitch bug thing happened that i needed people to see.
I was recording footage. Thank fully when it caught.
So what ended up happening is i boot into my first match after having to complete the training the entire software crashes to the switch home. So i just restart the game.
But instead of going to the main menu screen, it automatically i guess loads me into that same match and then by the time it's done loading.
I'm basically already boots on the ground. If you don't know apex legends battle royale game, that's kind of problematic. Sometimes you know if i had been pressing buttons or something, i don't know if maybe I would have gotten separated from my team.

Thank fully i didn't. It was just a really weird experience if you've had anything like that happen. Let me know because that's a super weird bug.
It's apex legends is a little bit rough on switch just full stop this is a game that panic button. The maestro's behind the wolfenstein ports the doom eternal and doom 2016 ports like.
They've definitely cut their teeth on great ports of first person shooters. This definitely leans more towards the wolfenstein young blood side of their output. Where it's just a little bit rough around the edges.
I think it almost occupies a similar space for dead by daylight with me. I do enjoy playing apex legends
and i feel like this is the optimal path to take if you kind of just want to.
If you aren't going to get super serious. Obviously you know play on pc or if you're you know you want to go pro or you want to become a streamer play on pc, play on ps4, or ps5, or xbox.
This is for this is the optimal way for somebody like me to play it. Where I don't get super into it. I'm not into the lore or the world.
I hop in every season or so to just see what's new play a couple pickup games maybe play. When i have nothing else going on and i think this could be in the future the perfect version of the game for that right now.

Oh boy it's uh it suffers from that thing a lot of other switch ports. Suffer from where a lot of the textures. Just look really dull and lifeless. I don't know what quite happens.
Maybe it's the between the reduction in level geometry and the reduction in the lighting complexity that it loses a lot of the luster and color that you find on other consoles.
This game definitely suffers for that. I feel not that you know Apex Legends Switch wasn't a you know a visual masterpiece at any point to begin with.
It's certainly not even nearly as colorful as something like fortnite. There is a there's a genesee quad to the world design that i think this port really misses out on. The most important thing with the battle
royale game and with most switch ports.
If you've played this show before if you've looked at all of our other switch reviews. You know the thing i value most above frame rates above. Above graphics about pretty much anything else is does it play well.
It plays pretty okay you know, i've i played captured this footage on the switch pro controller i played about an hour in handheld mode.
i will say and unsurprisingly. This game runs handheld real hot and it between that the weird bug i had at the beginning. Some of the like really kind of long loading times, some wonkiness around the menus. It just has rough edges to it that other panic button ports. Generally don't you know do maternal like they push that thing out to polish it to a mirror sheen.
Good on them that's it a phenomenal port this one. I wouldn't say it feels rushed because you know this isn't it's hard to compare this to something like you know an absolute nightmare factory like remothered broken porcelain or something on the switch.
It's not that bad, but it feels like the the perfect version of this
game for switch will come in a month or two or you know god willing with
patches in a week or two right now.
It's a little bit dull. I don't think visuals are going to change that much. I think gameplay could change if you wait a week or two there's obviously a really big influx of new players here.
I think you know people have been saying.. I didn't know this. Apparently apex legends is huge in japan like it has a massive player base there.
Switch is far and away the like biggest selling console in japan. There's new player bases all over the place that are probably going to be able to jump into the game for the first time. Maybe get deeper into the game if they bounced off it before.
It's just this version of the game specifically is not quite up to the the high standards that i think respawn have held them to themselves to in the past.
I want to give them the benefit of the doubt and say that this will be improved over time. Usually especially with something as big as this.
They're going to patch it they're going to try and bring it up to stuff like I said graphics, lighting that kind of stuff like you will notice the environments look really grainy.
I don't think that's going to change that's you know that's a nintendo switch thing that's what happens that's the thing.
I kind of knew would happen out of the gate especially even if you look at look at other kind of really open games like immortals phoenix rising, another game with these really huge open-ended areas and it gets grainy like the switch.
That's kind of pixelation and grain is like the switch equivalent. I feel of the nintendo 64's like fog effect
and hey that's that's what happens you know you roll the dyson and this is what you get.All that having been said it does play well it plays okay in handheld mode I did turn off the the motion controls. It has motion controls enabled by default which well like not for me not into it.
But if if you like that they are i didn't fool around. If i'm being honest didn't fool around with them too much. They're just again, they're not my thing. I've tried them on doom, i've tried them on wolfenstein, i've tried them on slower paced shooters.
There's just something about it in first person third person. I think some games have done it really well on the switch. I think resident evil 5 did a really good job where you're kind of aiming and then the motion controls take over.
This doesn't really have that i feel like more first-person shooters need to get away from motion controlling your entire look space and just controlling when you're aiming down the sights, so you can line up more accurate shots.
But that's neither here nor there it controls well. There are some frame rate dips, i've noticed and i can't tell if that's because things were starting to get a little dicey with other players again that could also be network trouble.
They had to delay this game last minute, even a couple more hours to i guess coincide with the latest update patch for apex. So, this and all the other versions will be up to snuff this is cross play with playstation and xbox at least i don't know if it's cross-play with pc.

That would be yo that would be mad messed up if it was cross-play with pc. Because it does it falls prey to some of the other problems that you see every now and again with other switch ports.
You know it. It just it doesn't quite work with those joy cons. If you have a pro controller at your disposal or if you have one of those i have back for my switch that kind of elongates the the controller pad.
It's more comfortable to play and that allows me to get a little bit
more gain and wiggle on the joy cons that helps a little bit.
Apex Legends Switch is a free download. The only thing, it's going to cost you is that it is a chunky download like it's. It's not super tiny, it's not like fortnite size so know that going in and if you really got to play this game, if you're getting in deep or you're getting excited at the prospect
of playing it play a couple matches, it is free go ahead download it see if you like it.
But really before you start spending money on it especially if switch is the only way you're playing it, wait for a little bit. See if it gets better over time. Because then i would say yes like take that dive invest in it.
They've obviously pumped it up and made it better over time. Right now i can see a lot of people maybe bouncing off of it in the current state. Thank you for reading this article, hopefully this is will be help you to make decision to try or not this apex legend. Byee
