Plants Vs Zombies Battle For Neighborville Nintendo Switch Review 2021

Plants Vs Zombies Battle For Neighborville Nintendo Switch Review 2021

Despite its childish exterior plants versus zombies has its hardcore fans. Those who have been with the series since the very first title but then also jumped on the garden warfare titles and thoroughly enjoyed them.

The titles which have far more depth than initially meets the eye and were developed by Popcap Games and published by EA. Side note for nerds it runs on the frostbite 3 engine and this is hugely important for the nintendo switch.

Its future iterations because it is the very first game to use it and there are other EA titles that we've seen and just released lame versions of their games FIFA.

So, hats off to pop cap because they've done us all a favor whether we like the game or not now was planting it on the switch the right idea. Let's find out as far as story goes then plants vs zombies battle for neighborville. Actually features a single player experience that has a number of missions and side missions for you to undertake.

Some of them are absolutely ridiculous. But i was surprised to see them here at all. There are also spontaneous events that take place during the game. But for those expecting a fully multiplayer online experience.

There's going to be a little bit of a pleasant surprise in that regard. Even if its main purpose is to teach the player how to get better for when they hit online as far as gameplay and controls.

It's been a long time since i played garden warfare back on pc i used to absolutely be obsessed with it and a lot has changed the game is split into several hub areas.

There's a main area where you can switch between the plants or the zombie teams. They'll again have their own spaces and within these there are several things such as training areas access to the online battles a shop of sorts. It's also from here whether customization systems used.

This is essentially a points based customization system which is the biggest departure from the garden warfare series and potentially the one that you're gonna either enjoy and find not a problem with or feel like is a slight downgrade from the previous games.

Personally i didn't mind it, it's quite quick although the character iterations of the older titles potentially made a bit more sense to me from the get-go you've got the choice of many different classes.

Some which can attack some defense and others who support and as the name suggests they'll excel in each of those areas when you head into town which is essentially the practice area.

This is where you can undertake the aforementioned missions. These are useful as not only will they level up your character but it gives you a chance to learn the individual skill sets and what works best for. Each of your plants or zombies and in many of these areas there will be other players running around.

It was nice to see the increase in co-op gaming and in a strange way it reminded me a little bit of the division games in the way. You could see others doing their missions and going about their business in these areas.

Each class has their own specific weapons and they're surprisingly meaty. You use the left trigger to zoom in and the right to shoot and as you'd hope they've implemented gyroscopic controls.

They are essential here. You can tweak every aspect from the sensitivities of the sticks to whether or not you want gyroscopic controls to come on just when you aim down the sights, or you want them on always as well as their sensitivities.

The smoothing that's applied to them. What's also nice is that, you can also toggle between the pitch and your gyro. So, you can use it with your joy cons in the right way without having to roll them or with your pro controller.

From my experience so far, it's a really good implementation. I didn't experience any gyro drift. Although you'd be wise to triple the default sensitivities across the board. Once you've gained a bit of experience and some currency and leveled up you can, then spend it on those character upgrades.

These allow you to tweak your build adding things like a vampire effect. So, that when you shoot enemies you gain, your life back or increasing the speed with which you level up.

Some of them are quite powerful. In the shop area, you can unlock new weapon abilities. But these will take quite a few of your points with only a finite amount available to use to alter your character's build. You can then save builds to three different slots which was a nice touch.

You'll be unlocking different visual tweaks and customizations to further make yourself stand out now where the meat of the game is going to be as you'd expect is online playing competitively in those battles.

So from the hub area, you'll head out to the battle arena and hope that the matchmaking's up to snuff and it is when it gets you in a game. There may be a slight weight before you're joined by other players. But once that's happened, you can easily stick with the same group and fight over several maps.

There are several different game modes to take part in things like team, deathmatch team vanquish and my personal favorite at the moment which is turf takeover mode in a strange kind of way it reminded me of the battlefield conquest mode where you have to go and take over certain points on the map.

There's another way you're escorting something and pushing it towards the enemy's base. Trying to hold it and it see saws back and forward between the two teams. It's really good fun now. None of this would be important, if the controls and general gameplay didn't hold up.

But having over 20 different customizable classes really adds a lot it means that. You can spend some time finding your niche and the one that works best for you. Then specking it out in such a way that on the battlefield you can dominate.

Personally i like to play as the sneaky bugger, who flanks an entire team and usually goes down in a john rambo style blaze of glory. You can click the left stick in to sprint. But it's all about tactically using your different abilities as the cooldowns on.

These can be quite substantial and there's always a most opportune moment. The gameplay here is fast and fun and although the emote system is going to take a little bit of getting used to there's quite a bit of, customization in this regard allowing you to add favorite emotes or directions to your team.

While i do miss some of the modifiers from the previous games and it felt like stripping back some of the game modes. Potentially is its detriment the ones that are here i really enjoyed. There are numerous different stages and if you're a fan of things like splatoon, you're certainly going to fit in well with this community.

My only real concern is how long the game's going to be supported. For i know back on pc it wasn't long before they stopped supporting it and then obviously it sprung back into life with a new patch coming september 2020. I do wish the game was 60 fps, because it really benefits the feeling of control and the overall gameplay.

But it's still decent as we'll go into in the next section. But, i guess if they put all the effort of porting across the frostbite engine. You'd hope they'd also put the effort into long-term support.

As far as visuals performance and audio go then well, we've got 30 fps for the vast majority of your playtime in both docked and handheld. Although it can be a little bit inconsistent and the frame times also struggle a little when there's a great deal going on on screen.

But the frostbite engine is looking surprisingly good. Potentially better than some of the unreal ports that we've seen certainly some of the weaker ones and chiefly for online play is the draw distance and that's character draw distance which is very good the level of detail is solid in terms of geometry.

But the object level of detail is quite close to the camera and you will notice smaller items popping in. But the overall, world is reasonably impressive. There are some large arenas here. Some multi-stage affairs that you gradually push through and quite a lot going on on screen as far as resolution goes.

It's difficult to say exactly, but the image remains reasonably sharp. Yes, there is a touch of blur. So, potentially some dynamic resolution scaling is going on. But i've seen far worse than this. the colors pop the characters look good and the animations, all translate well to the smaller screen, audio is also good it seems to be high fidelity.

So, there are some bonkers characters voices and some small details like certain moves being accompanied by the scream of an angry venus fly trap and an overall quirkiness that put a smile on my face more than once. Also goes to the developer for a really strong implementation of hd rumble. I'm actually really impressed how well they've managed to bring across the frostbite 3 engine.

You can see Plants Vs Zombies Battle For Neighborville runs well. They just need to fully smooth out that framerate and i enjoy the audio. Some of the music's a bit in your face. The game is going to set you back 34 pounds 99 or your regional equivalent. It is the complete edition, it's nice to have the offline features.

So you don't always have to have an internet connection and there's also a good friends matchmaking system built into the game. It's a reasonable price for the game on offer.

But as is always the case with these switch ports, you do have other choices. The ps4 game can be picked up for anywhere between 15 and 20 pounds and the same goes for the xbox as well as for steam well. You can get that for about a tenner. There's still a lot of value and play time you could spend here.

It's always nice having these complete editions. Overall for me, i've really enjoyed the game. I'm having a great time on it and small touches like showing who is the top dog in each area. After each round, is quite satisfying. It's very compulsive.

But it's also easy to pick up and play. I didn't have any crashes or huge issues with connection and don't be put off by its childish looks.

My friends a big thanks to read this article u,s each and every week or month and as always for all things switch. All the time keep it switch up cheers..
