Today, we're taking a look at Kingdoms Of Amalur Re-Reckoning Nintendo on the switch a new remaster of the 2012 action rpg. How does it stand up and is it still worth your cash ? It's a story here it was handled by a seriously impressive, team R.A Salvatore. The new york times best-selling author and spawn creator, Todd Mcfarlane. The story though it is simple enough to start things up.
You are warrior that was slain in battle dead, you are being transported to a morgue of sorts when you basically awake it turns out experiments were being conducted to uncover the secret of immortality. You are the first ever to actually be resurrected now. You must get out into the world of amalur and rescue it from a war.
It starts relatively simple as i said. But within those first few hours this story it branches out there's, a ton of characters that come into play and there's a whole host of optional side quests that are yours for the picking. I really do like the core story with this one. It's frequently then provided to you with branching conversations allowing you to kind of pick and choose how a conversation may go.

It gives you that sense you really are pinning your warriors fate and it stands up to this day. You're thinking like themes of war, romance, politics and betrayal. Even if i will add here just a slight kind of like downturn for the game was the writing at points can field just a tiny bit unnatural. But that is also me being kind of picky.
So gameplay-wise and it's an action rpg through explore the world, face quests and use combat that would be best described here as hack and slash the weapons. You use though that can be from mage through to warrior. It's completely your choice and this is thanks to an in-depth skill tree system that is backed up by abilities.
You can kind of learn as well likewise, then you can customize your character's luck to open the game. It's not deep by today's standards. But it is still very decent and then my favorite piece of this one. It's what's known as its destiny system you essentially unlock cards and these would be considered your class.
But you can change them and kind of almost combine them as you go through your play through just allows you to experiment with each without kind of you know locking you into one set path the combat choice.
I went with was a big old sword, and a bow for ranged attacks. Your hero comes with magic attacks as well these can be accessed with a quick tap of the right trigger followed by the corresponding face button.
Personal favorite of mine was the electricity-based attack that seemed to work against just a huge number of foes come back, then is rounded out with what is called reckoning mode. This is linked to the purple meter in the top left of the screen. It's below your health bar and once full.
You're going to hold down both triggers and once activated you
basically become overpowered time slows down and then you can even pull off
some flashy executions to wrap up the battle and that definitely never got old
watching me pull these off.
All these battles and award xp leveling up your character and reckoning in particular boosts. So it's good for moments when you know you're close to that next level with each level though you'll receive points to spend on skills and capabilities skills are kind of the way you'll shape your character.
From let's say your ability to persuade in a conversation to your skills, luck picking something i urge you to level up. Because you'll be doing that a lot. But even you could do something like, let's say you're stealthiness. How good you are at it something.

I honestly rarely used in this particular run likewise then you'll also get points for your capabilities think here more you know, your skill level with a certain weapon type or maybe an attack that you can do.
It's very cool stuff, i tended to lean towards the defensive though. Because health definitely drops very quickly in some of these battles outside of combat then the game's all about that exploration. Amalur is an impressively sized world with a lot to see on foot and understandably so given the setting. You may be thinking that's going to be slow and yes a few of the journeys for sure can be on the long side.
But fortunately, the game features a very effective quick travel system this allows you to go back and jump immediately to any locations that you may have visited before. It is an absolute blessing. Honestly it keeps progress feeling fair and moving quickly.
But not necessarily like long-winded or just padding for the sake of padding the world's a fun one too amal always had this good sense of scale. That's the case here from wide open locations to forests, to dungeons to full-on castles or even towns.
While the story will push you to many of these locations. You really do want to do some of the side quests. Because it just opens up so much more the world then is filled with folks to interact with.
While the character counting, this one is relatively low by comparison to you know today's releases, it works. You can expect everything from merchants, medics, alchemy, and blacksmiths. Because yes in this world, weapons armor it will deteriorate.
Meaning you'll need to repair it and then a whole whole lot of loot from armor that can of course be equipped to new weapons to medical supplies. I think health cures. Because there's a ton of enemies here that impose a tribute on you that you'll need to fix up to even those that.
Maybe increase your stats or award xp. There's just so many different items to look into where kingdoms of amalor succeeds for me is in its balance of quick paced action with a more traditional rpg element.
So you're crafting, your exploration, your conversations, while also
making much of the optional. Meaning you can kind of play this one the way you
want to which i think is always a nice touch. I've had a great time with Amalur
honestly. But it's not without its problems and that makes sense.
Kingdoms Of Amalur Re-Reckoning is a game from 2012, it's essentially a hd upgrade. It's showing, its age they've tilted balance changes and additional difficulty mode which is for sure nice for replayability.
But again at its core, it's the same game. Meaning it comes with the same problems you would expect of the time. It was released the two big ones for me though and these might sound a little weird the first one camera. It's clunky there is a ton of options that can help with this in the menus. But it's still far from perfect.

Frequently i found it getting caught on the environment going through the ground or looking in random directions. The game would have really benefited from some sort of enemy lock-on system that is a quality of life improvement. I think he absolutely needed and then in exploration it is an open world for sure.
But i had some frustration with silly things like steps, i couldn't jump down or up. You know the ground was maybe raised very slightly another hit an invisible wall. There's very specific points where the game has a jump icon it flashes on screen. You can jump, let's say down 15 feet. It kind of seems silly when you think about it. You worry i can jump down 15 feet to only then be stumped by a small step down.
It's kind of a little on the frustrating side. Otherwise though look
that is me being extremely picky as i said the game stands up to this day the
world's a little empty with those civilians filling these cities. But it's for
sure not lazy when it comes to side quests regions to explore and the combat to
this day still absolutely awesome.
From start to finish, i just didn't once get bored of battling it out in this war graphically speaking then it's pretty good starting first of all with the world itself i love the scale the variety like i mentioned earlier in this article. Not sure that the designs, they can be a little rigid and boxy is probably the best way to put it.
But i think in the world of rpgs, it's not too far like removed from what we see now. You know it's got a hint of almost outer scrolls which makes sense given the lead designer was involved with that never a bad thing. Let's face it, but it also gives you an idea of what to kind of expect you know static npcs with the emotional bandwidth for the brick wall and enemies that definitely repeat very frequently that said though these enemies these npcs.

They definitely have some real nice animated combat. Even i think and it seems that was the key focus. It makes absolute sense the game though does have some issues outside of its age and that's a favorable frame rate. It's not awful. But it's noticeable as it kind of drops very slightly and raises it would have been nice if they could have locked this out to 30.
The combat there's some freezes on attacks. Especially when there's a lot of like enemies in focus. It almost feels like a stylistic decision for the gamers. It's always on that forward attack moment. But i know that's not the case, it won't harm your enjoyment or at least it didn't me.
But it will be
noticeable another issue then with the scale of the world popping is very
apparent whether that's shadows or foliage or particularly npcs in the distance
which i will say was a little disappointing overall look. I think it's a game
showing its age.
But it's still a great world, they just need to fine-tune the performance a bit and that goes for both duct and handout. Where you'll find near identical experiences, audio then and again solid the combat sounds heavy with each weapon bringing their own you know sound effect feel to the table and then the world itself.
it's not huge on ambience. but it does just enough that it never feels you know lifeless then the characters themselves. The voice acting is decent. There's a lot in here. So it don't all quite land honestly. But it's solid enough. Characters are so often just one or two lines here and there so it
makes sense that they placed their focus you know when it came to the clearly more experienced voice acting. For those that had many more dialogue options the music is the real winner, though a great soundtrack score with that epic nature.
I think lots of orchestral and mystical pieces absolutely just kind of reinforces the epic adventure you find yourself facing. So the final verdict and while it's not a huge upgrade. It was still a pleasure to revisit this world exploration the rpg elements in ways are for sure showing their age.
But the combat it is just absolutely like. It's just fiscal it stood the test of time and that's thanks to the fairy design, combos, weapons and how quickly you can change things up.

It just didn't once get dull or the scale in regards to things like mpc count or you know enemies it might not be quite up to the standard of a release in this generation. There's still a lot to like and a whole host of interesting locations to uncover i had a great time. Honestly i just wish there was a few extra tweaks, you know the ones the game deserves.
In my opinion like that ability to lock onto an enemy with ease and maybe some extra freedom in exploration. But otherwise look fans of the genre and this game in particular you should absolutely pay it a visit. Especially if you like a good story. Because this one is a blast of a road for those new to it though just expect a few signs of its age.
That's all i will say and if you can handle that, i'm a law is
absolutely gonna be worth your time. I think Kingdoms Of Amalur Re-Reckoning been priced absolutely
fairly. It's just for many not going to quite be the upgrade maybe you expected
and in 2021. It's problems, they're a little more noticeable than ever will you
be adding this one to the library or skipping it for the time being.
Maybe it's going to be a wish list and wait for a sale totally understandable if so. Especially if you have kind of went on this adventure before with that though. You can share this article to support me into your social media. It helps more than you know, So thank you all so much and i'll see you all on the next article, thanks everyone.
