Why I am Exciting The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword HD

Every cloud has a silver lining no game is truly perfect and this one is no exception. 

Almost every game will have different flaws, different missteps along the way that slightly hold them back. Some of these are bigger than others. But ultimately having flaws isn't a bad thing.

In fact in many cases, it can be really positive. Because with every mistake a game makes something different is usually gained as a result whether it's forced motion controls excessive back tracking or too much hand holding. While these qualities may look bad on the surface.

There's always a silver lining something cool or unique that comes from these aspects of the game in a way that you wouldn't expect. When a game is flawed many people choose to give up on it and some just never give it a chance in the first place. It's sad but in a way understandable the game.

We'll be discussing today, certainly wasn't without. Its flaws, but to me it's what you're left with when you look past them that really counts. This is why i love the legend of zelda skyward sword. For those of you, who've played it what's the first thing that comes to mind when you think of this game for me.

One of skyward sword's greatest strengths is its breathtaking music for the first time in the franchise. This game actually featured an almost fully orchestrated soundtrack and this really shows. There is so much variety in the tracks with some feeling dramatic and grand to set the stage for an epic adventure.

While others feel light and delicate the music. Sometimes even changes based on what you're doing in the overworld. For example when you're in the bazaar. 

A different variant of the shop theme plays when you approach each vendor. Even when comparing to the high standards set by other zelda games skyward swords music really excels.

But when talking about this game, you have to address the elephant in the room, say it with me now motion controls.

These were such a huge part of skyward sword and because of this were a big reason that many chose to turn away from the game. But honestly in my opinion, they weren't actually that bad for the most part.

They were pretty seamlessly incorporated into the game and added something fresh to the combat. You can move your sword in new and precise ways and some enemies even require you to attack them in a certain way. Take the corner bubba for example. It opens its mouth both horizontally and vertically and you have to attack based on this.

There's also these electric bucklings which punish you for attacking the wrong way. These guys were a little annoying that aside. 

I mostly found the motion controls to be pretty solid and actually enhanced the gameplay quite a bit in some cases. Except for those stupid heart mini-games screw you.

I was trying my best okay that aside another thing to address about skyward sword is your main companion fi in a similar vein to navi people seem to have their fair share of complaints about fire. Some of which are probably justified. But i actually don't mind her.

In fact i'd say she was pretty cool as far as zelda companions go to me. The idea of having a character in your sword is a really neat concept while the low battery notifications are a tad on the annoying side please just go away this was outweighed by the actually somewhat useful advice. She could give at times sure, she sometimes stated the obvious.

We can excuse that another notable thing about skyward sword, is its unique art style. It has a pretty sweet cartoony look similar to that of wind waker. 

But with characters having proportions more akin to twilight princess. This has helped the game to age surprisingly well and really brings the worlds and environments to life.

They're just super easy on the eyes and this makes exploring them a ton of fun to do. There's a real sense of adventure and discovery. You get when running around. These areas despite them being relatively self-contained. You need to explore each area pretty thoroughly before entering the game's dungeons.

However i do think it would have been nice to have the farron eldon and lanairo areas connected in some way. But it's still pretty fun to see what every setting has to offer the sky itself, is also really nice looking and flying around to discover new islands, is always a blast granted. 

It would have been nice for the sky to be a bit more populated than it is. But there are still some fun standout areas like the lumpy pumpkin and bamboo island that really make it worth exploring.

The art style of the game also helps bring out the personality of the characters. They're just so cute and expressive. 

The characters themselves are also a lot of fun with some real standouts like groose coming to mind almost immediately. 

The guy starts out as a typical bully towards link. But changes his attitude and actually warms up to link over the course of this game.

He's just brilliant and every moment with him on screen always gives me a laugh alongside groos. Another really cool thing about skyward swords characters is the connection you feel between link and zelda. 

In a lot of previous zelda games like ocarina of time, link and zelda are always so disconnected, so distant. So when you see them together you hardly feel anything.

However in skyward sword this couldn't be further from the case here their bond actually feels special. This is helped by the fact that the two have known each other for years. 

It's actually real you can clearly see just how much they care about each other from their body language and facial expressions and this is definitely helped by how expressive the animations are.

This really leaves a lasting impact and remains one of the most developed relationships link and zelda have ever had. Another prominent character in this game's story was girohim, who does a really nice job as a villain and provides a neat change of pace from ganondorf. 

While ganondorf was always portrayed as a strong and powerful figure with clear intentions. Girihim on the other hand was a lot more mysterious and in a way a lot more sinister and intimidating as a result.

You encounter it many times throughout your journey and clash swords with them on numerous occasions building up to an epic showdown speaking of which skyward sword also has some killer boss fights to go along with gary him colloctos always springs to mind as a really memorable and epic fight.

He had to use the whip from the dungeon to rip this guy's arms off and attack him with his own weapons the mini bosses don't disappoint either the showdown with scarvo, the robot pirate for example feels so dramatic.

You see him proudly standing aboard before you engage in an intense battle to knock him off the edge once and for all. The atmosphere around this fight was just superb. I loved the idea of fighting a pirate on an old ship and that brings me on to my next point the dungeons.

In my opinion skyward sword had some of the best dungeons in the entire franchise. He had the sandship which was a fantastic setting for a dungeon and seamlessly incorporated time travel mechanics into the design as well as the ancient cistern. 

Which looks all serene and pretty above the surface and then you delve deeper into the ominous gloomy depths the stark contrast between these two areas really makes the dungeon stand out to me.

Within these dungeons, you also acquire some really unique items including beetle, which is super versatile. It lets you zoom around and grab items and knock into enemies and the gus bellows as well. Which have since made an appearance in smash many of these weapons can also be upgraded in gondo's shop back in skyloft.

The weapon upgrades was something that provided a nice sense of progress and always gave you something to look forward to upon returning to me. Skyloft's colorful cast was part of the reason. 

I remember this game so fondly. It's not just zelda, link, giriham and gruse either the whole array of characters make skyloft feel like a living breathing world see in skyward sword.

There's a lot more to focus on than just the main story and dungeons. Littered around skyloft are a ton of side quests for you to be getting on with these provide an interesting distraction from the plot and can be a lot of fun to complete. 

Some of them even involve little subplots like this ridiculous love triangle between corraine, pippet, and colin. The way this one plays out gets me every time and i actually feel very slightly bad for colin even if he wasn't a great guy.

But at the same time it was pretty hilarious. I honestly feel like skyward sword strikes the right balance between main story and side quests. There's enough to keep you entertained. But it definitely doesn't detract from the story in any way you know how almost every game has that one particular segment you really enjoy.

For me this has to be the pokobalen prison in this section of the game. You're held captive in a pokoblin base and much to your surprise every single one of your weapons has been stolen by the bakoblims. What's more is that this base is heavily guarded from all angles and you have to sneak around to avoid their searchlights and gradually get all of your items back.

I found that this part of the game really provided a neat change of pace and was something that definitely came out of the blue. Typically, i don't really enjoy stealth segments in video games that much. 

I don't know there's just something about the feeling of being totally stripped back and having to work your way back up again that i find to be just a ton of fun speaking of stealth segments the silent realms.

These things had no right, i repeat no right to be as stupidly terrifying as they were. I love it regardless this section of the game was just one small thing i loved about it. There is just so much here that this game has to offer and it's just so easy to look past that every cloud has a silver lining for every one of skyward swords annoying motion control segments.

There was a cleverly designed enemy fight for every bit of backtracking horizons were broadened in the form of weapon upgrades and new side quests sure skyward sword wasn't perfect far from it. 

It's arguably one of the most flawed games in the entire zelda franchise. But does that make it a bad game absolutely not sure this game arguably had some of the lowest lows in the series.

But rather fittingly, this was counteracted by having some of the highest highs. The franchise has ever seen, i'll always love going back to skyward sword to relive the grand moments it brought to the table. Words cannot express just how excited, i am for skyward sword hd being able to relive this game on the switch.

With the gorgeous hd graphics is going to be incredible and it already looks to have smoothed some of the rough edges the original had ordinarily. This is where i'd say something like i hope skyward sword gets a remake sometime. But i guess that's not necessary now. So what do you guys think are you looking forward to going toward hd?
