2018 has been an interesting year for the Nintendo Switch. After 2017 with such huge games like Super Mario Odyssey, The Legend of Zelda breath of the wild, Xenoblade Chronicles to 2018 was a bit of a different year especially with games from Nintendo.
You didn't really have those massive big new games from Nintendo like you did in the previous year. You had games like Mario Tennis Aces. A lot of Wii U ports to the system.
But the end of the year started to heat things up and sort of transition into what's going to happen in 2019, you of course had Pokemon let's go Pikachu and Eevee. Which honestly surprised me how much I enjoyed those games.
Obviously the big game of 2018 was Super Smash Brothers ultimate for the Nintendo switch. Honestly I wasn't super excited for the game. I know that may sound crazy, but I'm a very very casual Smash Brothers player when it comes to fighting games.
I prefer things like the Street Fighter series over things like Super Smash Brothers. I always play Super Smash Brothers. I always have a good time with it. But my stoked level just wasn't all that high for this game.

But after playing the game, this weekend I can honestly say that Super Smash Brothers ultimate is probably one of the most important games of this generation and that's a very big claim.
Especially coming from someone who's very casual when it comes to the series. So what is making Super Smash Brothers ultimate stick out of my mind. So much why do I feel this game is so impactful and why do I feel this game is so important to the video game industry as a whole.
Let's jump into the world of Super Smash Brothers ultimate for the Nintendo switch. So one of the big additions to the smash brothers series in Super Smash Brothers ultimate is of course the world of light mode now.
This is supposed to be the single player like experience in Super Smash Brothers ultimate. There were things I liked about it and there are things. I don't really care too much for in this mode. Basically the game starts out and you have access to Kirby and you're going around this top-down map trying to get different spirits, the spirits.
Then you can use in battles to sort of help you in these battles and it's pretty fun. I do like seeing all the different spirits and the map itself. Absolutely massive, you'll be going all over this map for many hours.
I still have not completed it yet.
I hear that there is a big cool boss battle at the end of it. But
really I'm just sort of taking my time with Smash Brothers.
This isn't really a review. It's more of just my thoughts and impressions on the game and what I really feel about this game.
So spirit mode is fun I love unlocking the different spirits and different characters from different universes and then equipping them onto my fighter.
I do feel like there are some balance issues some of the spirit battles can be very challenging.
Especially when you're first starting out. There's one where you have to basically battle in a high wind like situation and that one was very very frustrating to me now. I know that some people will get through this easily.
I know that there are spirits that you unlock later that will actually negate different status effects. There'll be some battles where you'll have like the controls will be reversed. You can use the spirit to counteract that.
But just getting into the game that sort of was kind of startling to me. There are some battles that definitely feel a bit unfair. There is a good challenge and I do like that. There is a challenge and I do like the satisfaction of beating the challenge as well now.

You can use this to unlock characters in the game and I think world of light is a really interesting mode. I would have loved some more story elements into it. It's definitely more based on the actual gameplay. I do think it's cool.
There's little deviances that you come across as well such as dojos to be able to train your different spirits that you want to lock.
You can unlock different things, where you can send your spirits in to like a mine and then they come out with more abilities and of course you can level up your spirits. Everytime you defeat something in world of light.
You access the spirit and then you access other items that you pick up
as well such as snacks that you can give to your character the snacks will then
allow.
Your characters to level up. It's pretty cool you switch out different characters.
I primarily just use Kirby though. Because you start out with just Kirby.
I really got sort of acclimated to how Kirby plays and I kind of liked that about it. It sort of introduced me to Kirby as a character.
I ended up using Kirby a bunch in this mode another feature. I was very interested in checking out was. Of course the online of the game. Let's be honest Super Smash Brothers Online has been terrible to say the least.
I remember playing the Wii version of the game at least trying to play the Wii version of the game online and having little to no success. The Wii U version was a little bit better. The 3ds version was a little bit
better.Honestly I just kept running into problems with lag and things like that when it came to Smash Brothers online and all previous entries now. I have seen some people online talking about. They've been having a lot of issues with Smash Brothers ultimate online.
Honestly I have not it's been a very smooth experience for me and I've been playing everything from one to one to four player matches and everything just flowed really well now. I'm not using a LAN adapter, I'm using a wireless connection.

I'm not sure you know. It's supposedly better if you use a LAN adapter. I'm not sure, if people just have bad internet or maybe. They're just getting paired up with really terrible People.
I really like the online in this game. It's definitely smooth enough for me to enjoy it and while I'm not an expert in you know timing and things like that when it comes to the Smash Brothers universe.
I felt like I had perfect control of my character. I was able to do moves and the border. I wanted to do them. It was a really enjoyable experience for me and there's a bunch of different stuff that goes on into the online.
There's a bunch of different game modes in general and that's really one of the craziest things about this game, is how much content is actually in it there's. Of course the century smash where you go against a hundred different characters.
You try to beat it in the fastest way possible. There's a whole bunch
of different stuff to try out and look into and there's really rewards for
doing all this.
Because every time you do something like that you unlock more spirits or you unlock more currency in the game. Currency is important in the game.
You want to be able to buy more stuff. You could buy stuff to dress up your knees and make your knees
look cool and actually make some characters that are based on other characters from other video game franchises that aren't necessarily unlockable in the game.Of course there's additional ways to unlock spirits as well besides just doing the world of light mode. There's actually a spirit board mode. Where there's different spirits put up and you can unlock the spirits by defeating the character in a set sort of thing and then you sort of shoot a gun, then you try to unlock that spirit.
I like that it's constantly changing. It's based on time as well so that was really fun for me and that was something that I really enjoyed doing. I love all the different spirits and that's sort of the spirits is kind of how I want to transition into.
Why this game is so important? Because like I said I'm a very casual Smash Brothers player. You're not gonna get combo information out of me. You're not gonna get all this sort of crazy stuff. The reason I play Super Smash Brothers is because I love video games.
I feel like as the years have gone on Super Smash Brothers has become this series that sort of just transcends just Nintendo. Because this video games sort of industry icon that you know just celebrates all things video games and Super Smash Brothers ultimate that's where it hits the nail on the head for me.

It's not just a celebration of Nintendo. It's a celebration of video games and the history of video games and stuff that. I'm very passionate about so there's gonna be some minor spoilers in this part of the article.
It's stuff that's been talked about in trailers and has been showcased. But when I was playing classic mode which of course is the mode. Where you just go through and you fight a bunch of different characters and then there's an end boss and then you get rewards for it.
When I was playing classic mode is Simon Belmont. I was absolutely blown away. There are so many little intricacies that are put in the classic mode that really show you. This isn't just a love letter to Nintendo.
It's a love letter to video games as a whole so as you're playing through classic mode with Simon Belmont the end boss is Dracula. I was like wow this is really cool but the kicker is it's not just standard Dracula. It's actually Dracula in two different forms much like in the original NES game.
I was just like holy crap so much attention to detail went into this. I was playing as Ryu through classic mode as well and there was a stage where it was Blancas music, a green Donkey Kong and a Donkey Kong stage that looked a lot like Blancas stage.
I was like wow this is really really cool the end for Ryu in classic mode, also has M Bisons theme song. Speaking of theme songs, there's so much music in this game from different franchises and just things that you wouldn't necessarily think of there's like twenty seven different Castlevania tracks.
There's a castle, I absolutely love this. There's so many characters
from so many different universes and so many spirits from so many different
video game franchises and universes that you don't necessarily assimilate with Nintendo like playing as Ryu on Midgar against Bowser
just sounds.
Absolutely crazy because there's so many different franchises here. You have Street Fighter, you have Final Fantasy and you have of course a Super Mario. This game allows you to do things like celebration of video games and that's what makes this game so important.
Because you're getting a complete game that is unheard of in fighting games think of how many fighting games come out nowadays where you have day 1 dlc think of Soul Calibur 6 which actually has you play a demo, where you play it as a DLC character that you had to purchase on day 1.
Think about how much money is put into video games when it comes to spending to get additional characters for a game everything in Super Smash Brothers ultimate is unlockable. You don't purchase things you play the game to unlock different things to unlock different characters, to unlock different spirits.
It's a celebration of classic gaming and it's something that you don't see in video games anymore and that's what's really hitting home to me with Super Smash Brothers ultimate. I have not completed world of white mode.
I still have a few more characters to unlock as well. But just the celebration of video games the fact that there's so much stuff in this game that's available right then and there that you have to actually play the game to unlock it the way the game.
The game looks absolutely fantastic. The final smash is all look great. All the levels are definitely very beautiful. All the character animations and all the little intricacies in the background and in the foreground and then the characters animations.

It's just such a celebration of video games that honestly. It's a reason to buy a Nintendo switch, it's a reason to play this game. I finally understand Smash Brothers. I finally get why people love this series so much.
Maybe not on the competitive side of things, but the casual side of things. I'm fully on board with this game. It's a game that I'm going to spend hundreds of hours on just trying out different things. Trying different characters and having fun.
It is a fun game, it is an amazing game and is honestly one of the most
important video games of this generation.
Just because of how it brings this celebration of video games together. So those are my thoughts on Super Smash Brothers Ultimate.
Like I said you're not gonna get combo information here. You're not gonna get some crazy in-depth stuff. I'm a very surface level person when it comes to smash brothers and the surface is just absolutely beautiful.
Some people may be turned off by how it can be challenging to unlock different characters. Honestly I like that about the game. You can actually go back and fight different characters that you've tried to unlock before that sort of pops up on the timer as well.
Of course there is the way to unlock characters faster. Those are my thoughts on Super Smash Brothers Ultimate. What you think of the game? Do you think this game is as important as I'm? and as always thank you for checking out this article. As always I will catch you guys on the next article later
